WELCOME TO THE CENTRE FOR DISASTER, RISK MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES, UNIPORT
The Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies (CDRMDS) is a collaborating unit of the University of Port Harcourt and the National Emergency Agency (NEMA). It is one of the six NEMA Centres of Excellence in Nigeria, established in 2009 with the mandate to offer Disaster Risk Management and Development training that bridges the gap between theory and practice. Our mission is basically to provide the platform to facilitate Education, Training, Research and Certification or Professional Disaster Managers and Development Experts equipped with capacity for Humanitarian Assistance Operations all geared towards achieving the Nigeria Policy on Disaster Risk Management and Global Best Practice in DRR. Our graduates are already blazing the trail within the sphere of NEMA and in various State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) across the country, while others are are engaged in other related professional services like safety safety, emergencies, volunteer, humanitarian advocacy services and so on. The vision of the Centre for Disaster, Risk Management and Development Studies (CDRMDS) Uniport is to become a Centre of excellence and a leading Disaster Risk and Management mainstreaming Center. This is in consonance with the Centre’s philosophy which is essentially on the need to provide broad core disaster risk management and development education that bridges the gap between theory and practice, and enhances student’s knowledge base, concrete decision-making and critical problem-solving skills.
